Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail

When it comes to hiking on O’ahu, two particular trails stand out to me as favorites. The first, located just west of Aina Haina, is a 4.7 mile out and back trail with 1,600ft of elevation gain.

Although challenging, with some rather steep sections near the summit, this trail is sure to provide some of the best views of Hawaii Kai, Waimanalo, and Wailupe Valley. These are unforgettable 360° views only found here in Hawaii - at least, ones at gorgeous as this one.

If you’re not in the mood for the steep stairs of Wiliwilinui, and prefer something more gradual while still getting in a strong workout, then Kuli’ou’ou Ridge is a tried and true favorite of mine. The trailhead is in the back of Kuli’ou’ou Valley and is an out and back trail 4.3 miles in length and has 1,650ft of elevation gain. Although a more heavily trafficked trail than Wiliwilinui, Kuli’ou’ou is a great place to go with friends and family. The views of Waimanalo at the top are simply breathtaking.
